Introducing Betty and Bill Bishop
June 10, 2022
When asked who depicts a powerful love story at Johnstown Pointe, it was a no brainer; Betty and Bill! Both Betty and Bill reside as long-term care residents at Johnstown Pointe. Betty and Bill are native to Johnstown, Ohio, and are so happy to call Johnstown Pointe their new home.
Bill and Betty were first admitted to Johnstown Pointe last fall for short-term rehabilitation. They both ended up discharging home. Betty returned to Johnstown Pointe in January 2022. Bill shortly followed in February 2022. Although they have been married for over 59.5 years, they chose to have their own private rooms on different hallways to have their own space. Even with their own rooms, they are inseparable! You will find Bill sitting bedside, visiting Betty every day!
Bill and Betty Bishop through the years!
Bill and Betty met through his sister. Betty was at a friend’s party who was leaving for the Military. Bill’s sister was also at the party and mentioned Bill to Betty. Bill’s sister called up Bill and gave him Betty’s number. Bill called Betty the next day, and the rest is history!
Bill and Betty met when they were both 23. The same year they met, Bill proposed to Betty, and she said YES. Bill proposed when on leave from the service at the drive-in movie theater. They got married later that year, on December 30, 1962. They got married at New Bethel Church in Johnstown. They have one son named Roger, who is now 58. The best part of their marriage so far is learning to grow together. Bill’s favorite thing about Betty is that he has never gone hungry. She is a great cook and a fabulous mom. Betty and Roger are two peas in a pod. Betty’s favorite thing about Bill is that he is really caring and a great father. They said their marriage has been wonderful, but not all rainbows and butterflies. Below is some advice they have shared.
Betty said,
“Start a garden. It makes life so much more enjoyable. Raising your own fruits and vegetables for your family is so rewarding.”
Bill said,
“Don’t try to be dominate over your partner. No one is better than the other.”
Betty answered,
“Just be good to your partner and don’t break up over the small arguments. Every argument has a resolution if you’re willing to work for it.”
Bill answered,
“Talk things out and work through them together as a couple. It will bring you closer together.”
Johnstown Pointe is honored to have Bill and Betty in our care, and it was so fun getting to learn their love story!
